TIPS TO FALL ASLEEP

  • --Try for one hour of complete relaxation before sleep in minimal light. Enjoy some pleasant television viewing or try reading. Do your best to put aside all daytime concerns.

  • --It’s normal to wake up multiple times. The goal is to stay relaxed so you can fall back to sleep quickly. Try relaxing your muscles and concentrating on the air going in and out of your lungs. Visualize a relaxing experience or setting.
  • --Make your bedroom your sanctuary, free of daytime concerns. Consciously commit each night to leave worries and problems outside.
  • --While you’re at it, stay away from negative thoughts in general. Designate a half hour for a constructive planning notebook. On one side of a page jot all your concerns and things to do. On the other side, write the “next step”. This way it’s all in one place, so you don’t have to worry about it at night.
  • --Remember, exercise and physical exertion facilitate and deepen sleep.
